Could you stay consistent for 90 years in a row?

Well that's exactly what Jiro Ono did.

A 99 year old sushi chef who's been working (non-stop) since the age of 9!

You could say old Jiro there is pretty good at "showing up".

But here's the craziest part:

His restaurant only has 10 SEATS!

But he's still managed to bag 3 x Michelin Stars along the way. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mastery at its very best.👌

So what's young Jiro's secret here?

Outsourcing? Pulling all-nighters? Adderall?!

Well I'll let the master himself jump in here to explain:

"Once you decide on your occupation, you must immerse yourself in your work. You have to fall in love with your work. Never complain about your job. You must dedicate your life to mastering your skill. That’s the secret of success, and the key to being honourably regarded." -- Jiro Ono.

In other words:

  • Focus on work that genuinely excites you—passion fuels consistency

  • Show up daily: Jiro hits the fish market at 5 AM without fail

  • When platforms change or algorithms shift—don't complain, adjust as necessary

  • Build long-term systems that build up habits and skills (aka mastery)

Remember: Jiro didn't become a master chef overnight.

He devoted himself daily for NINE DECADES in a row!

(9 years in I'm still trying to assemble my first sushi roll) 😭

As you plan out your 2025, don't aim for overnight success.

Instead, focus on building habits that will carry you well into the end of the decade.

That's how Michelin stars are earned, one sushi piece at a time (over decades)! 🍣

Happy New Year! 🥳
